Monitoring

  • Site: a label to identify your monitored location, e.g. MyBoat. Keep this label short if you intend to use text (SMS) reports/alerts.
  • Log interval (secs): the interval between recorded logs. A good default is 600 seconds (10 minutes) otherwise your reports will contain too much data. This setting does not introduce any latency into detecting and reporting alerts.
  • Location (lat, lng): the 'home' coordinates of your monitored location. You can enter this manually (e.g. 51.178832,-1.826226) or by long-pressing the Location(LL) sensor on the sensor settings screen. It is used to compute the Location(m) sensor reading, i.e. the distance the MaxMon phone is from its 'home' location.

Email

  • Email username: a new Google email address specially registered for this MaxMon app - see Configuring your Android phone. We strongly advise against using an existing or personal Google email account.
  • Email password: the password associated with the above Google email account. When you edit this you will see a "Show password" checkbox. This is to help with password entry but not to allow viewing of existing passwords (it will prompt you to clear any existing password).
  • Email reports/alerts: enables or disables email reports/alerts.
  • Recipient(s): email address(es) to receive reports and alerts (comma-delimited if more than one). Think twice before adding multiple recipients as your friends and family will soon get over the novelty of receiving daily humidity reports from your remote property.

SMS

  • SMS reports/alerts: enables or disables text (SMS) reports/alerts.
  • Recipient(s): phone number(s) to receive text reports and alerts (comma-delimited if more than one). Think twice before adding multiple recipients as your friends and family will soon get over the novelty of seeing humidity reports from your remote property.

Remote control

  • Email commands: enable or disable remote control from the MaxMon website.
  • Passphrase: set a non-obvious passphrase to prevent unauthorised remote control of your MaxMon app. When you edit this you will see a "Show password" checkbox. This is to help with passphrase entry but not to allow viewing of existing passphrases (it will prompt you to clear any existing passphrase).

Arming

Camera (back)

  • Camera (back): enable or disable use of the phone's main, back-facing camera.
  • Flash*: standard "Off", "On" and "Auto" flash settings.
  • Picture rotation: rotate pictures taken by the camera, by 0°, 90°, 180° or 270° clockwise.
  • Picture quality (%): trade-off image quality against image size (in terms of kilobytes of bandwidth consumed by photo emails). Effect varies by phone model so requires some experimentation. Defaults to 75%.
  • *Disabled if the phone camera does not have a flash.

Camera (front)

  • Camera (front)*: enable or disable use of the phone's secondary, front-facing camera.
  • Picture rotation*: rotate pictures taken by the camera, by 0°, 90°, 180° or 270° clockwise.
  • Picture quality (%)*: trade-off image quality against image size (in terms of kilobytes of bandwidth consumed by photo emails). Effect varies by phone model so requires some experimentation. Defaults to 100%.
  • *Disabled if the phone does not have a front-facing camera.

Connectivity

  • Manage WiFi: active management of long-term WiFi connectivity. Only enable this if the MaxMon app is using a WiFi connection. If enabled, the MaxMon background service will monitor the phone's WiFi connection and automatically (disable and) re-enable it if it detects problems. See the related 'Reset (wifi)' action.
  • Manage Bluetooth: active management of long-term Bluetooth connectivity. Only enable this if the MaxMon app is using a Bluetooth connection. If enabled, the MaxMon background service will monitor the phone's Bluetooth connection and automatically (disable and) re-enable it if it detects problems.

Diagnostics

  • Diagnostic level: sets how much diagnostic information is captured by the MaxMon app. Please leave at "Info" unless requested by MaxMon UK support. Changing this may affect the performance of the phone.
  • Stealth mode: if "Enabled", disables all LEDs on a connected Quatropus control unit and audible MaxMon notifications.

Legal

  • Terms & Conditions: review, accept or decline the MaxMon end user license agreement.
  • Release notes: what you need to know about the current app version.
