Actions are things MaxMon can do for you, in response to sensor alerts or on a repeating schedule. Selecting 'Actions' from the 'General settings' screen takes you to a screen with four tabs (touch the tabs to move between them):

  • Actions - operations MaxMon can perform.
  • Sequences - define your own sequences of actions, e.g. switching a light on and off.
  • Alerts - execute actions or sequences in response to specific sensor alerts.
  • Tasks - schedule repeating actions or sequences, e.g. daily reports.

Note: actions will only execute if the MaxMon background service is running. To test an action long-press it and select "Do action".

Actions

The Actions tab lists built-in operations the MaxMon app can execute in response to sensor alerts or as scheduled tasks. There are three main types of action:

  • App actions - predefined actions for use in response to alerts, or via remote control.
  • Actuator actions - when you add actuators MaxMon will automatically add corresponding 'actuator (ON)' and 'actuator (OFF)' actions, so you can add actuation to your sensor alerts and scheduled tasks, e.g. switching a dehumidifier on when relative humidity exceeds a threshold.
  • Reset actions - predefined actions which can help keep the MaxMon app (and a Quatropus unit) running reliably over long periods of unsupervised use. To use them schedule associated tasks that execute in the middle of the night on a daily or weekly basis.

App actions

  • Audio (alert) - play an audio alert (see Q: Can I change the audio alert?).
  • Delay (n) - delay n seconds, which is useful when configuring sequences (for example switch on a light, delay for n seconds and switch it off).
  • Photo (back camera) - takes a photo using the phone's main, back-facing camera and emails it to the recipients you configured in 'General settings'.
  • Photo (front camera) - takes a photo using the phone's secondary, front-facing camera (if there is one) and emails it to the recipients you configured in 'General settings'.
  • Report (day) - generates a sensor report for the past 24 hours and emails it to the recipients you configured in 'General settings'.
  • Report (week) - generates a sensor report for the past week and emails it to the recipients you configured in 'General settings'.

Reset actions

  • Reset (android) - reboots the Android phone (requires a Quatropus unit running up-to-date firmware). Some older phones shut down but do not restart, so test this works reliably before enabling on a remote phone.
  • Reset (app) - restarts the MaxMon app (in most cases this is superseded by 'Reset (android)').
  • Reset (external) - reset an attached Quatropus unit.
  • Reset (wifi) - disable and re-enable Wifi on the Android phone.
