There is considerable anecdotal evidence on the Internet that UK mobile providers deactivate SIMs that have not made or received a voice call (or in some cases sent or received a text) in a 90- or 180-day period. This policy varies by provider and you should check with your provider. Future versions of the MaxMon Android app will provide a schedulable task to make a call automatically. Otherwise you should schedule a single weekly text report, or remember to make a call from your MaxMon phone when you next visit your remote monitored location.

Note: if you are using a minimal-cost PAYG data plan you will need sufficient credit to cover the cost of these infrequent 'SIM activation' calls or texts. We recommend keeping an extra £1 credit above what you need.
