The MaxMon app running on an Android phone has to be associated with a Gmail (Google) account, so it can send email reports and alerts and receive remote control commands. Even if you already have a Gmail account we STRONGLY recommend that you create a new Google account for this purpose. This keeps your MaxMon emails separate from your personal emails and means no personal information need be stored on a remote MaxMon phone.

Here's a step-by-step guide to creating a new Google account for MaxMon. Please do follow this guide as MaxMon requires some special account settings.

  • Create a new Google account using a web browser on a PC or tablet (not the MaxMon phone). It will be much easier than using the small screen/keyboard of an Android phone.
  • Browse to www.gmail.com and follow the 'Create an account' or 'Add account' link.

  • This should take you to a web form where you choose a new Gmail email address and password (keep both in a safe place!). Choose an unclaimed Gmail address like This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
  • You will also be prompted to enter personal details, a recovery email address and mobile number, and to create a corresponding Google+ profile. You can skip several of these input fields if desired (Google will tell you if they are required).
  • You may be prompted to verify your identity by either sending an email to your personal email account, or a text (SMS) to your personal mobile phone.
  • IMPORTANT: After the new Gmail account has been created select "Settings" from the settings icon at the top right of Gmail, go to the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab and ensure that IMAP Access is enabled (as highlighted below).

  • Once you have created the account you will be taken to a welcome page (see below). You are almost done, apart from one more important Google account setting.

  • Google's web applications frequently change in appearance but you can generally access Account settings by clicking on the various menus at the top right hand corner of Google web pages (as highlighted on the welcome page above). Log into your new Gmail account (if you are not already logged in) and go to the Account settings. They should look like the web page below (after clicking on the second 'Security' tab at the top of the page).

  • IMPORTANT: For MaxMon to work with Gmail you need to enable 'Access for less secure apps' (highlighted above). Don't worry, this is Google trying to force everyone to use their own Gmail app. MaxMon still uses industry-strength SSL encryption to send emails. Clicking on 'Settings' takes you to page below, where you enable the setting and click 'Done'.
